"Wait, isn't that a kid's show?"

Yep!

Bluey is an Australian children's TV program.
you know what Bluey is. even if you know little to nothing about it, it's basically impossible to avoid lol

Bluey is a show/cartoon about a family of Heelers, centered around, of course, Bluey, a Blue Heeler! as well as her little sister, Bingo, her mum, Chilli, and her dad, Bandit!

despite being a TV show aimed at children, it has insane popularity with not-children too, and I am one of those as it turns out!

and by that i mean i'm obsessed. biscuits.

COCONUTS HAVE WATER IN THEM!

yeah uh, i kinda became hyperfixated on this show starting in July (2025). i randomly decided to try it on Disney+ and got into it pretty quickly

things of note!

UH AH! DON'T spoil the ending!

HEY! This section has spoilers. Open the sections at your own risk!
I'M SERIOUS CEREAL!

here I talk about some of my favorite episodes!
genuinely, i will probably add more to this soon. there is a lot of episodes and i love every single one of them.

kinda realizing a lot of these just make me sad or emotional i guess...

i guess that's why they're good though?

maybe i just miss being a kid lol

Café (S2 E34)
In the park Bluey meets a new playmate Winnie, but when Bluey wants to invite her and her dad home for breakfast, she learns that adults take a little bit longer to make friends.
Watch!

Café, hands down, is one of my favorite episodes BECAUSE of the, like, multiple lessons happening here!

Bluey picks up Winnie into a very tight hug while Bandit and Fido offer a handshake.

"SQUEEZE ME TIGHT! WOOAH THAT'S TIGHT!"

"Nice to meet you mate."
"Yeah, you too!"

Winnie and Bluey become friends meeting on the playground in the morning before brekkie, but Bandit and Fido are more resistant (after they drag them into their game of Cafe hehee!).

as the episode carries on, Winnie and Bluey slowly push Fido and Dad to get closer, and it's clear that they WANT to is the thing!

Winnie and Bluey talk to Fido, Winnie's dad, who is sitting at the small playground table.

Bluey "Do you like my dad?"

Fido "Croissant please! And yeah, I do like your dad!"

Bluey "Good."

Winnie "Because he likes you!"

Bluey "Aand, we're all out of croissants." ∗yoink

and then

Bluey talks with Bandit, who is now sitting by himself at the small playground table.

Bluey "I wish Winnie was here."

Dad "I know you do."

Bluey "Do you wish Winnie's dad was here?"

Dad "...Yeah, I do. He's good fun, actually."

Bluey "If you asked Winnie's dad to be your friend, do you think he would say yes?"

Dad "Well, I don't know! Maybe!"

Bluey "If you weren't my dad, I'd want to be your friend."

Dad "Aww, thamks mate. C'mon, we have to get back for brekkie."

Winnie excitedly jumps into a hug with Bluey, causing the two of them to spin.

"BLUEY!!!!!"

"WINNIE!!!!!"

Bandit and Fido offer a friendlier handshake, smiling. Bluey and Winnie hold each other's hands happily.

and then they finally come to Bluey's house for brekkie and Bandit gets over his nervousness of this new friendship. AND THEN WE EVEN SEE THEM HANGING OUT LATER IN ANOTHER EPISODE LIKE?!

ALSO, CAN WE ADOPT THE WORD "BREKKIE"?! FRICK AUSTRALIA HAS SOME GOOD WORDS
THE WORD "BREAKFAST" IS SO BORING

this episode kinda actually tackles the issue of how adults take longer to make friends, which has become increasingly important to me, and it's just aaaAA

as someone who is, apparently an adult now (?!), i hate how indirect adults are. WHY. and why take so long to make friends?!

Bluey and Winnie chase after Bandit and Fido who climb up a playground slide.

i also like this bit because they're CLEARLY having fun, i feel like it shows that play is still fun for adults n stuff (necessary even?). i think it usually looks different as most people grow up but why does it have to?

i feel like this episode is SUPER underrated actually, i don't really see many talk about it lol. i guess maybe it's because this lesson is really important to me in particular due to the issues i've had with making friends, especially as i've gotten older (tangentially related DEFRAG ZONE post). WHY DO ADULTS TAKE SO LONG TO MAKE FRIENDS?!
GENUINELY. i would LOVE if I could make a friend and instantly be hugging and all fun like Bluey and Winnie are literally like 20 minutes after meeting ;w;
(dawg i couldn't tell you the last time i've had someone jump into a hug like that too hehe, that just looks fun and happy)

Camping (S1 E43)
While on a camping holiday, Bluey makes a new friend called Jean-Luc. Bluey may not understand him, but they find common language playing and hunting for a wild Daddy pig.
Watch!

HEY WAIT YOU CAN'T JUST DO A FLASH FORWARD LIKE THAT?! THATS SO MEAN HOW DARE YOU

oh my GOSHH dude though this episode is, somehow so simple in formula but just that one quote...

Bluey "Mum?"
Chilli "Yeah?"
Bluey "Why did Jean-Luc have to go?"
Chilli "Their holiday was over, honey."
Bluey "But I want to keep playing with him! He was my friend!"
Chilli "Well, look. Sometimes, special people come into our lives, stay for a bit, and then they have to go."
Bluey "But that's sad!"
Chilli "It is. But the bit where they were here was happy, wasn't it?"
Bluey "Yeah. We caught a wild pig together!"
Chilli "Maybe that makes it all worth it."
Bluey "Will I ever see him again?"
Chilli "Well, you never know. The world's a magical place!"
Bingo, Mum, and Bluey (left to right) look up at the pretty purple night sky.

this scene is so pretty...
Bingo says "ooo... stars! pretty!!!"

i freaking FEEL for Bluey. again i moved a LOT when i was little so it was really rough having to say goodbye to people, and there's been times where i haven't been able to say goodbye. FRICK it was hard saying bye to people just leaving high school and stuff. it really never feels fair.

there have been times i have cried and bawled literally JUST like her in this episode... like i want to NOWW even! gosh does it sting still, even. my heart...

it's not fair that i can't cry right now, and i don't know why i can't...

Bluey stands sad in front of Mum after learning about Jean-Luc leaving. Bluey looks at the sapling that she planted with Jean-Luc, tears welling up in her eye. Bluey sits into a ball in front of the sapling, beginning to cry, eyes shut hard and ears low.

i beg, so much, to have a moment like Bluey and Jean-Luc do at the end of this Camping episode. i miss so many people. :(

maybe one day, i hope. when i have the money and the time and the ability to travel more

Bluey and Jean-Luc, as teenagers, meet again as Bluey reads one of Muffin's books under the now beautifully grown tree that they had planted together.

"Hello Bluey."
ooh, Jean-Luc's fur is so pretty too...

this episode's music is also one of my favorites and one of many tracks on Bluey's OST that gives me feels and chills every time i hear it to where i have to be careful choosing it from the albums!
oh, the peaks, the valleys, the violins...

so, yeah. OBVIOUSLY this one is one of my top top top top TOP high favorites too. 'cause it's a really personal story for me too.

and they say "OH MY GOSH YOU'RE WATCHING A CHILDREN'S SHOW?!" I DON'T SEE YOU WATCHING THESE EPISODES AND WANTING TO CRY JANET /j /ex

i don't actually hear anybody say this im just really very paranoid :(

Rain (S3 E18)
When a heavy summer rain thunders over the Heeler home, Bluey is determined to dam the water in the front yard, while Mum tries to stop her constantly tracking mud into the house.
Watch!

oh... i think i just want a mum like that. :(

i lost my mom/mum at a very young age and so my family dynamic has been kinda weird since then. i wanna cry everytime i see this episode because

  1. it also kinda goes back to the "adults need/want to play too!" thing and
  2. I want to have a mum like Chilli.

most of my play as a kid was quite independent or just with friends, which is FINE but goddd i just love how much they bond and the clear love that Chilli has for Bluey (and Bingo).

the double rainbow at the end is my breaking point. AND THE MUSIC. the music does a lot too.

genuinely, Mr. Joff Bush i don't know how you do it but music ALREADY has really strong emotional effects on me, and Bluey's perhaps does it some of the most.

this episode's music is another one of the ones that i have to be careful with on the OST because it WILL make me cry. happy tears i think though?! it's just so beautiful... especially towards the end when Mum finally comes to play with Bluey, and then there's the version with lyrics that i think is basically just the thesis of this show lol! aGGGGHHH ;w;

i LOVE Bluey and the music is a REALLY big part of that, and I think this episode is a REALLY good example of that.
(the other is Sleepytime...)

i also just kinda didn't play in the rain much. rain's scary and wet and bad. except i know that it's not now and i kinda like it, hehee.

...can I go play in the rain now please?

Bluey and Mum stand in their front yard, looking off into the distance at the double rainbow that just formed after the rain stopped. Mum has her arm around Bluey. A front facing view of the two heelers. Bluey and Mum are smiling and in a light hug, looking up at the rainbows.
Onesies (S3 E31)
When Mum’s sister Brandy comes over for a visit, she brings the kids onesies as a present, which has an unexpected effect on Bingo.
Watch!
Chilli ~ You know how you really want Bingo’s cheetah onesie?
Bluey ~ Yeah, more than anything!
Chilli ~ But it doesn’t fit you, so you can’t have it, and there’s not really anything anyone can do to make it fit.
Bluey ~ Yeah...
Chilli ~ Well... there’s something Auntie Brandy wants more than anything as well, but she can’t have it, and there’s not really anything anyone can do about it.
Bluey ~ Why can’t she just have the thing she wants?
Chilli ~ Because it’s not meant to be.

oh.

yeah, uh, that one actually hurts. i'm a guy and very gay (!) and not having the prospect of actually having my own without shilling thousands upon thousands of dollars kinda hurts. it's not the same thing at all and i don't dare to compare, but i still feel and understand the pain.

i think this episode is also a very good example of how clever this show can be with lessons sometimes. this one is so dang sneaky too... good on ya mate.

like, it's a fun lesson for the kids to enjoy and take in, but it's also a lesson for the adults and somehow its kinda the same lesson but?!?!
and then the kids are like "WHY ARE YOU CRYING?!"

yeah no what an episode.

Mum is talking to Bluey, the two of them hiding in a bathtub. Brandy reaches her arms out after Bingo runs off, looking sad.
The Sign (S3 E49)
The 28 minute Bluey special. When the Heeler home goes up for sale, Bluey is not at all happy about the news.
Watch!

oh come on OBVIOUSLY The Sign was gonna be here!

seriously though on that spoiler warning. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN The Sign YET, STOP READING THIS AND GO WATCH IT AFTER WATCHING THE WHOLE SERIES! there's a LOT of sneaky little callbacks that won't make sense or that you'll miss otherwise, and the lead up to The Sign is worth it!!!! just TRUST ME OH MY GOSHHHH

nono, this one hits REAAAAALLLLY hard for me because I moved, A LOT when I was little. like, to the point where everytime i explain, people are like "oh, military child?" and i'm like "NO!" we just, did that! for some reason! lol

but uh, yeah, no, that did have an effect on me and it meant i couldn't really keep "childhood friends" much. the ending of Daddy Dropoff makes me feel the same way for the same reason, it's not FAIR that i never got to have that. :(

also, Frisky actually kinda snapping while on the phone with Rad actually startled and rattled me the first time I watched this episode! maybe that's a sign of something... who's to say. (no pun intended lol)
really accurate writing though, jeez! well done hehe!

i say that The Sign is ABSOLUTE CINEMA and i do NOT say that lightly. The Sign may genuinely, fully, unironically be the best most emotional heart touching piece of television that I've watched in my entire life. it is CLEAR how much they care about Bluey and it SHOWS. holy FRICK.

the amount i wanted to CRY AND BAWL while watching this ENTIRE FLIPPING EPISODE.

maybe a lot of that is attributed to how personal the story is to me too (like, really, really, really personal to me), but i don't really care. The Sign is a testament to how awesome Bluey is.

it is also the only TV that has actually had some success in making me cry in many years (not just feel like I want/need to).

Meg Washington, Calypso's voice by the way, also sings the ending song, Lazarus Drug, and it just... i feel so emotional just getting there and it feels like my heart stops.

but FRICK... Bandit pulling the sign out...

i wish that had happened sometimes when i was younger.

i will say, as of writing this, i've only watched The Sign ONCE, because i really want to experience this story again when i'm ready. i've rewatched basically ALL of Bluey so many times by now but The Sign is a very very very very very special episode to me and I don't wanna ruin it i guess.

Driving (S3 E20)
Bluey and Mum race against the clock to buy milk for Agatha.
Watch!

okay i NEED to have a few fun ones after all the emotionals bits and feels and gut punches lol >p<

i like this one because this just does actually seem like a fun game lol, but also I do feel for Chilli!

"It's just the driving around in circles. I think I'm better when I've got a purpose, like doing things for people, you know?"

...while actively trying to text back and forth with a coworker in a slightly bleh meh mood from said coworker, lol

i hate doing work but i am a people pleaser to a tee and regardless of that i do actually like doing things for people! i would say that I feel like i'm pretty good at it even!

The (imaginary) shop is closed. Bluey plots to ram into the shop with an evil grin on her face. Bluey floors the Mum Car. Chilli warns her. An evil teeth smile grows on Bluey's face. Mum braces for imminent impact. Crashed, both heelers splayed on the floor. Mum makes Bluey's windshield wiper arms go one last time, weakly. Both heelers chilling with "fast music" on the radio. The Mum Car is tilting on one side! Bluey holds on tight trying to balance the car with her weight.

thank you Mrs. Chilli Mum for committing to the bit. i wanna do that, that look fun, please and thank you.

The Pool (S1 E22)
As they prepare for a trip to the pool, Bluey and Dad tease Mum about being fussy and over prepared. But they soon find out the hard way, that doing the boring things, makes the fun stuff possible.
Watch!

aww, this is a very sweet and fun episode in the end, and i REALLY like the music for this one.

i dunno, there's just something about it! and i feel like it's another underrated Season 1 episode (i feel like most Season 1 episodes are underrated to be honest! i get it, there's a LOT of really good stuff in S2 and S3 but don't forget about Season 1 mate!)

i think it kinda gives me some nostalgia for hanging out with my family at the pool over the summer is part of it too :D

also this episode just gets very chaotic and its really funny. i love this one hehe

Dad is trying to pull Bingo out of the pool, who is actively refusing, hanging onto the ladder bars. Bingo jumps and screams after now seeing the pool cleaner right behind her.

i was also always afraid of the pool cleaner.
WHY ARE THEY BUILT SO SCARY?

Bluey looks up at the surface of the water, holding diving rings.

awww... how sweet. :)
also oh my GOSH DIVING FOR THINGS IS SO FUN!
TORPEDOS N RINGS? ALL DAY BABYY

also, related, why is Uncle Stripe just like actually rich lol

aw man now i wanna go swimming! lol
it is starting to get warm again here, so maybe soon!

Dad Baby (S2 E13)
When Bingo finds her old papoose baby-harness and Dad puts it on to show her how it works, Bingo climbs in and a new game is born: Dad Baby!
Watch!

Bluey "Uhh, Lucky's Dad? Can you give us a hand with something?"

Lucky's Dad "Yeah, no worries Bluey!"

Lucky's Dad "I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS THE SOMETHING!"

Bandit "HARDEN UP PAT."

The Something. Lucky's Dad, on his knees, looks angrily at Bandit who is laying in a kiddie pool, wearing a papoose with Bingo in it.

fun fact, I'm pretty sure this is actually the FIRST episode that we learn that Lucky's Dad's name is Pat! lol >p<

but uh yes obligatory mention of the Banned Episode because i'm a filthy 'MURICAN and we don't get to have fun here lol

no unironically this episode is hilarious and i'm not surprised its banned because oh my god i know people would have freaked out when i was younger if this was on the TV lol

i heard this isn't actually purely from Disney being a bum but actually because the episode would have been rated TV-Y7 , which therefore would have also made the entire show TV-Y7 instead of it's current TV-Y rating on Disney+. this would have made it unable to be aired on channels like Disney Jr.!
(still gonna be angy at Disney though lol)

Chilli baps Bandit in the head with a rolled up magazine as he runs away. Lucky's Dad still looks angrily at Bandit in the kiddie pool, who now has a confused expression.

Lucky's Dad "But I don't know how to deliver up a baby!"

Bandit "I thought you grew up at a FARM!"

Lucky's Dad "WE GREW SORGHUM!"

In a more detailed and closeup art style, Bingo looks happily up at Bandit, smiling.

aww Bingo is so cute!!!! hehee

Sleepytime (S2 E26)
After her bedtime story, Bingo tells Mum that tomorrow morning she will be waking up in her own bed. But as she drifts off to sleep, Bingo has a bizarre dream that takes her on a wild adventure.
Watch!

oh and of COURSE, i have to talk about one of THE LITERALLY MOST HIGHLY RATED EPISODES OF TELEVISION OF ALL TIME! I'M NOT KIDDING, LOOK THIS UP ON IMDB!

Sleepytime is one of the best and most emotional episodes of TV I've ever watched and I fully understand why everyone is crazy about it lol hehe

and the MUSIC OH MY GOSH. I said a similar thing about The Sign, and for good reason too! But Sleepytime is really special too honestly. Gosh, I want to CRY everytime the music peaks at the very end

unironically, if someone is like "why watch Bluey?" THIS IS WHY!!!!

they somehow managed to make this episode sad for all ages and i don't...
that's a werid new tagline lol
"SAD FOR ALL AGES!"
but like in a good way, y'nknow?

I DON'T HAVE KIDS. THIS EPISODE MAKES ME SAD. I FEEL LIKE BINGO. I DON'T KNOW I RESONATE WITH HER :(

in Sleepytime, i see that there are metaphors or respresentations of

  • mainly, the struggle of parenting lol
  • Mum is the Sun, the source of light and life, and love as she says "I'll always be here..."
  • loss?! (Floppy leaving, and also "even if you can't see me")
  • MORE THAT I CAN'T EVEN FIGURE OUT

and, on top of all of this, this episode is a MASTERPIECE OF ILLUSTRATION. WHAT THE FRICK MAN.

like, this episode is just so... pretty... hehehe

Bingo says good night to Mum, holding her stuffed rabbit, Floppy. Glow-in-the-dark stars cover the walls.

i want those stars... hehe

Bingo hugs Floppy closely. Dreaming, in space, Bingo waves goodbye to the now animated Floppy who swims away. Bingo is now crying, still waving goodbye. Bingo flies on a comet towards the Sun as the cosmos fly past her. Bingo stands on the small planet Mercury, staring at the Sun.
Bingo "I have to go. I'm a big girl now." Mum "Remember I'll always be here for you, even if you can't me. Because I love you." (echoey)

WHAT THE FRICK SHOW I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A KIDS SHOW NOT MAKING ME FEEL LIKE I NEED TO RUN TO GET A HUG FROM MY PARENTS THAT'S SO MEAN

ahem. what i mean to say is that Sleepytime is freaking amazing and deserves the praise. liteally every part of it, the story, the art, and the music, is a masterful piece of creation made with CLEAR care. it's SO clear how much everyone working on Bluey really cares about the show and it really shows here. heheh. and they even manage to throw in a little bit of comedy with all of that!

99 bottles of thing on the wall, 99 bottles of thing, and if these bottles should happen to fall, they'll be 97— 8 bottles of thing on the wall.

HOOOOO! biscuits...

also, one of my favorite plushies is now named Floppy because of Bluey and Sleepytime is part of why, so, yeah hehe

favorite quotes

admittedly i already used some of these for titles here lol
but still, here's an (assorted) list of some of my favorite quotes from the show, whether they're funny or really impactful.

just... random bits and facts! (and opinions)

I'm not taking advice from a cartoon dog.

DANCE MODE!

oh my gosh, my goodness how could I have barely mentioned the music up until now! Bluey's OST is a huge reason why I love the show too, it adds so much to the episodes and so much of the music and sound design is capable of just making me want to cry really badly or giving me chills like

Batflowers
Lazarus Drug
by Meg Washington

this is actually NOT a single, nor is it *technically* from the Bluey soundtrack! however, it IS played in The Sign and OH MY GOSH. i'm not spoiling anything, but if you've watched it, read my bit about the episode above please!

Meg Washington is Calypso, by the way, one of my favorite characters!

...gasp, zeeeroooo!

honestly, i can't put enough into this page to show how much i love this show. it is actually the best and i don't know how to word everything i feel about it >p<

Bluey has become a super duper comfort show for me and I really hope to see it continue. waiting for the movie in 2027, and I really hope a Season 4!

The Heeler Family! From left to right, Bandit, Bingo, Bluey, and Chilli, all striking a pose forwards towards the camera.
